Dana White is a self-proclaimed gambling degenerate, and he once experienced a 7-figure loss.

White joined ESPN’s “Daily Wager” program last week and talked about sports betting. White says he enjoys betting on sports because it makes the game more interesting and said he is happy that states are legalizing it.

The UFC boss also revealed that he lost $1 million betting on a boxing fight in 2007.

White was asked about a bet that still bothers him. He recalled when Jermain Taylor lost to Kelly Pavlik.

“I bet $1 million on Taylor, and he got destroyed,” White recalled. “It was the first time I ever bet $1 million dollars because I was so confident Taylor was going to win that fight.”

White really brought back some memories by invoking Taylor and Pavlik. And if you have the kind of money he has now, $1 million isn’t a huge sum the way it is for the rest of us. Sadly, many of us do have similar stories about money we’ve lost betting on sports events.

Shields vs. Dicaire: Tale of the tape

Claressa Shields

Shields (10-0-0, 2 KOs) enters this fight unbeaten and looking to add Dicaire’s IBF belt to her collection. The three-time division champion is trying to make history, as she would become the first fighter in history to hold undisputed championships in two weight classes at the same time.

Shields will be fighting in front of 375 fans due to COVID restrictions, but those fans will likely be raucous and in her favor, as this fight takes place in her hometown. The Olympic gold medalist from 2012 last fought Jan. 10, 2020, picking up a unanimous-decision win over Ivana Habazin in Atlantic City, N.J. Each of her past six fights have gone the distance, with her last finish coming in a fifth-round TKO over Nikki Adler Aug. 4, 2017 in Detroit.

Marie-Eve Dicaire

Like Shields, Dicaire (17-0-0, 0 KOs) is also unbeaten. But she has recorded unanimous-decision victories in each of those 17 professional fights, with no knockouts to her credit. She last fought Nov. 23, 2019, so you have to wonder if rust will be a factor. That last fight was a UD win over Ogleidis Suarez in Quebec City, her third successful defense of the IBF strap.

Shields vs. Dicaire: Odds, predictions and picks

Shields (-1200) is an overwhelming favorite on the 3-way line, and an even larger favorite (-1400) on the 2-way. There is no way to justify laying that kind of bread for such a small return. Let’s be more specific.

It will cost you much less, but SHIELDS ON POINTS (-250) is still a little expensive. However, she has just two knockouts in his 10-fight professional career, and Dicaire has none in 17 pro fights. You can expect this one will be going the distance with some entertaining technical boxing along the way.

If you don’t trust Shields in her hometown, but aren’t sure about Dicaire, either, you can simply play the FIGHT TO GO THE FULL 10 ROUNDS (-350), although that’s a little bit pricey. But given the fact we have had two finishes in 27 combined pro fights between the two combatants, it’s a good bet. The good news is if you pick up the pay-per-view, you’re likely going to get your money’s worth.
