Ubisoft inadvertently created one of the hottest esports franchises with their strategic hero shooter game, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege. The game, which looks like a typical first-person shooter, is actually a game that relies heavily on strategy, awareness, and player IQ.

Rainbow Six Siege is by far one of the hardest games to master, simply because its wide variety of maps and hero operators can impact gameplay in different ways.

Ubisoft adds new heroes multiple times a year, which shakes up the competitive arena, making it tougher to prepare for new operators whose impact in a match is unknown.

The fact that Rainbow Six Siege is a competitive esports shooter is no surprise, and even 5 years after its release, the game is going strong.

Fans and competitive players love the shooting mechanics, which is one of the best in the gaming industry, and Ubisoft’s constant updates have kept the game going.

Below is how the competitive esports scene is organized, and who the best teams are to wager on at Rainbow Six betting sites.

Season Schedule

As of mid-June, 2020, the Rainbow Six Pro League will switch to a regional format split into 4 quarters.

The 4 regions are Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America, and North America. The first three quarters will be called stages, with each stage ending in a Major tournament where the top 4 teams from each region will compete for the main prize. The 4th quarter won’t have a major.

Regions will host regional championships as well as promotion and relegation during the last quarter of each season.

The top teams from around the world will be invited to the Six Invitational at the end of the season. The Six Invitational winner will receive the top prize and the honor of being the best team in the world.

It is still unknown how each region will handle their season, and that’s because each region has complete autonomy in how they set up their competitions.

What matters are the Majors and the Six Invitational, where teams can achieve success on a global scale. This change to the league is more inclusive to teams around the world, and it showcases talented teams and players that would otherwise be ignored.

The top teams in each region have the chance to dominate at home and head to the Six Invitational where they will face other top teams.

With more esports reaching more and more people around the world, the change to a regional format will broaden esports, and, more specifically, Rainbow Six Siege’s reach.

How the Game is Played

Rainbow Six Siege has a few different modes, but the competitive scene solely focuses on a bomb, which tasks the attacking team with defusing. Defenders must eliminate the attacking team or protect the bomb until time runs out. Attackers can also win by eliminating the other team.

The gameplay sounds straightforward, but it isn’t.

Every map has tons of destructible walls, doors, floors, and ceilings, which means that smart players always have an avenue of attack. In Rainbow Six Siege, no one is safe, and walls can’t protect you. Players must outthink their opponents and use their operator’s ability to create plays.

There are now over 50 operators in Rainbow Six Siege, and each operator offers a different unique ability.

Some operators have breaching tools, such as Sledge, who wields a hammer or Hibana, who has a gun that shoots timed explosives. Breaching archetypes serve a critical role in any team, especially when the defending team does a great job of preparing.

Defender operators have different abilities that rely on fortifying walls and knowing where the attacking team is. Operators such as Mira can place a one-way, bulletproof mirror on any wall to keep an eye on attacking enemies.

Other players can electrify walls, place cameras, wield bulletproof shields, and much more.

Skill goes a long way in Rainbow Six Siege, but aiming alone won’t win matches. Players must know every map by heart, and they have to memorize every operator and their abilities and weapons, as well as which operator can counter other operators.

Some have compared Rainbow Six Siege to chess, and they’re not wrong. The best teams can adapt on the fly and counter enemy compositions instinctively.

Skill, strategy, awareness, and game knowledge are what make a great Rainbow Six Siege player.

Best Operators in Rainbow Six Siege

The list of best operators changes from season to season, and that’s because each update usually changes operators’ impact and abilities.

These changes to operators are known as nerfs or buffs — nerfs decrease an operator’s power, while buffs increase the operator’s power and usefulness.

Also, each operator has a rich backstory and a country of origin. Most operators are part of their country’s counter-terrorism unit, which explains their cool gadgets and abilities.

The game designers are inspired by real-life events, so some operators are based on actual operators and missions, though the names and backstories are changed.

With over 50 operators to choose from, it’s hard to decide which operator is the best.

However, there are operators whose whole weapon loadout and abilities are better than the rest.

There is something called the “meta,” which is a term that applies to the best current characters and loadouts at any given time. When a meta has been established, pro players will tend to stick with those operators who are known to be the most powerful.

Below are a few of the best operators currently in Rainbow Six Siege.

Attackers

Hibana

Hibana is an operator from Japan and comes from the Special Assault Team (SAT). Her weapon loadout is one of the best in the game, and her best attribute is her speed.

She’s deadly from afar with her Type-89 assault rifle, but she can also carry a Supernova shotgun for close encounters.

Her unique ability, though, is what makes her stand out as a top operator. Hibana’s X-Kairos ability launches 6 explosives that obliterate destructible surfaces after a set amount of time.

Her ability has multiple uses, so it’s possible to breach multiple walls and doors to keep defenders guessing your attack approach.

Ash

Being one of the original operators in Rainbow Six Siege, Ash has been a top operator for many years. The SWAT operative is fast, and her unique ability is able to breach reinforced walls and doors quickly.

The character is suitable for beginners that want to play the breaching role, and her speed allows players to run for cover during a difficult encounter.

Her loadout consists of assault rifles and pistols, so she’s best from mid-range. Her unique ability, Breaching Rounds, can penetrate walls from afar, and it’s best used to catch defenders unaware.

Dokkaebi

If you want to play more of a supporting role, Dokkaebi is your gal.

The South Korean Operator uses one of my favorite assault rifles in the game, and it packs quite the punch. She can go toe-to-toe with any operator in a gunfight, but her ability leaves her vulnerable in encounters.

Her unique ability is a computer called Logic Bomb, which can hack into other players’ phones and cause them to ring.

When opponents’ phones ring, it’s easier for attackers to find them on the map, and defenders must reset their phones to stop the ringing, which leaves them vulnerable for an attack.

Defenders

Bandit

Bandit is a German operator from the GSG9 that specializes in denying entry to attackers. His ability doesn’t reinforce walls, per se, but he can use his unique ability to electrify a reinforced wall or object to prevent attackers from destroying it.

His unique ability, Shock Wire, pairs well with defenders of the fortification archetype. When Shock Wire aids fortifications, fortifications are harder to destroy by explosives or other breaching abilities.

His weapon loadout, which includes a sub-machine gun and a shotgun, is tailored for close-quarters combat.

Mira

Pro League R6 Settings

More than any other ability, I prefer knowing where the attackers are at all times, and Mira’s ability is perfect for that. Mira is part of Spain’s GEO, or Grupo Especial de Operaciones (Special Operations Group)

Her unique ability, Black Mirror, gives defenders a one-way view of whatever is on the other side of a wall. The mirror is useful for countering enemy movements.

Mira is Rainbow Six’s resident gadget geek, with custom armor that has a maxed out armor stat. Her Vector .45 ACP is my favorite sub-machine gun in the game, having a high rate of fire that melts.

Goyo

Goyo is the sole Mexican operator, and he’s part of the Mexican Navy’s Fuerzas Especiales (Special Forces). His ability is not the most useful in every situation, but it does have its uses.

Goyo’s Volcan Shield is a deployable shield that can block doorways, which doesn’t sound very special, that is until you hear what it does.

Volcan Shield has a canister attached to its backside that explodes when shot. The explosion causes a lot of damage, and it also covers the ground in flames, which makes an area inaccessible for some time. Attackers can’t destroy the shield from the front, so they must find another route.

7 Best Rainbow Six Siege Teams to Bet on

The Rainbow Six Siege Pro League canceled the finals for season 10, but the teams continue to play online.

As mentioned before, after the end of the current season, the league will convert to a regionalized format to make the competition more inclusive.

R6 Pro League Betting Line

There are dozens of professional Rainbow Six Siege Pro League teams, but only a few of them are great enough to bet on at esports betting sites. Below are the regional winners for season 10.

  1. Spacestation Gaming (North America)
  2. Team Liquid (Latin America)
  3. Rogue (Europe)
  4. CYCLOPS (Japan)
  5. Fnatic (Australia, New Zealand)
  6. SCARZ (Korea)
  7. Qconfirm (Southeast Asia)

Conclusion

Now that you know how the game works, you can use that knowledge to make some picks. Knowing operators’ abilities and how matches work can help with deciding a winning team.

Rainbow Six Siege is an FPS as much as it is a strategy game, so pay attention to pro players’ picks, the map, and who intelligently uses abilities.

The pro league is always changing, but the regional format will only drive up the competition. Take a look at teams from around the world, since some regions may develop different tactics and playstyles.

If you’re looking for a complex esport, Rainbow Six Siege is for you.

Rainbow Six: Siege Introduction

Rainbow Six: Siege is an innovative take on the strategic shooter genre. The game combines complex shooting mechanics with a wide pool of different operators with individual abilities, which makes for insanely tactical gameplay. In each round of the bomb defuse game mode, the defenders get the chance to prepare and reinforce a specific location, where two bombs have been planted. The attackers then need to scout the place out and find a hole in the defence in order to defuse the bomb. This takes place in tiny areas, small rooms and tight corners, where it’s imperative to know your surroundings. Communication is key and only through good teamwork will you be able to win in Rainbow Six: Siege.

Right at the start, the players have to carefully choose which operators to pick as they all come with unique abilities and roles within the game. Some may be able to breach walls, and others may be able to scout out the enemy team’s equipment. With the right combination of characters, the players can work together to execute game plans and win the rounds solely through strategical and intelligent gameplay.

Since its release in 2015, the game has been steadily updated and supplied with new material. This has helped cultivate a huge and dedicated fan base, which continues to play the game to this day.

Most importantly, a competitive scene has formed around the bomb defuse mode of the game. The developer, Ubisoft, officially started supporting this scene in 2016 with the Rainbow Six: Pro League. Since then, ten seasons of Pro League have taken place and more than $2 million have been handed out in prize money through Pro League competitions.
